INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Information Technology

Dutch Lady Company uses IT solutions to improve visibility and control of product and information throughout the supply chain.

Electronic Data Interchange

Dutch Lady uses EDI for their communication with other organizations. Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) refers to computer-to-computer exchange of business documents in a standard format. EDI describe both the capability and practice of communicating information between two organizations electronically instead of traditional form of mail, courier, & fax. The benefits of EDI to Dutch Lady are quick process to information, they have better customer service, increased productivity, provides cost efficiency, also competitive advantage and also improved billing.

Bar Coding

Dutch Lady use barcode technology increase the accuracy and efficiency of managing inventories. Bar code scanners which are most visible in the check-out counter of the supermarket. When a barcode gets read at the point-of-sale (the computerized cash register), inventory sales data are immediately read to a broader system that maintains usage statistics. The Dutch Lady purchasing department uses these data to make buying decisions based on sales and existing inventory levels. The tracking of their products during delivery are also using bar coding. Barcode technology facilitates the movement of inventory within the confines of the warehouse (from one location to another) or from the supplier to the warehouse (receiving) and from the warehouse to the customer (picking, packing and shipping).

Radio Frequency Identification

While barcode technology has done a lot to increase the accuracy and efficiency of managing inventory, radio frequency identification (RFID) has raised the bar on inventory management. Dutch Lady that use RFID typically move thousands of pieces of inventory through their doors. RFID uses two types of technology to manage inventory movements--active and passive technology. Active RFID technology uses fixed tag readers assigned throughout a warehouse. Anytime an item with an RFID tag passes the reader, the movement of the item is recorded in the inventory management software. Active systems work best in environments that require real-time inventory tracking or where inventory security problems exist.

Online system

Dutch Lady use online system for customer to purchase their product. It is much easier for the customer to purchase the product so that they does not have to communicate with the workers to order for the product because sometime the workers will make mistake in the order processing. By using online system, customer can make their order by filling the information in form given. While the stock still available and the product can be fitted in the lorry, the order process can be proceed and send to the customer. However, if the product cannot be fit, depends on the customer whether they want to cancel the order or reschedule the order for future delivery.
